Welcome to a new every-other-month series!
I know, I know. Does it seem like a lot? Donโt worry, it all makes sense in my head. Hereโs the updated road map for each month of posts:
A suggested habit shift and/or a practical โhow-toโ
A suggested perspective shift
Alternating series:
On My Mind: a collection of bite-sized observations
Romanticizing The Ordinary: my favorite everyday, โboringโ moments (because these are what make a life, after all)
A round up of favorite things over the last thirty days to close each month
Iโm adding this into the mix because I am truly a lover of ordinary thingsโthe opposite of an adrenaline junkie. Count me out for rollercoasters, sky diving, most things that require a helmet, large crowds of people, or parties that go later than 9:00 pm. I am thrilled with an actual slice of free time, a glass of wine, and tinkering around my house. (This is 35!)
I do crave novel, exciting experiences from time to time, but one can last me quite a while. I went to The Eras Tour last June, and honestly, Iโm still pretty set from that.1
Being present enough in my life to appreciate little, ordinary joys is my antidote to stress and overwhelm. Itโs not perfect, and it isnโt a total cure, but it certainly helps. โก
Here, in no particular order, is a list of recent, ordinary moments that sparked contentment and gratitude:
Good cherries, the best summertime snack
Golden hour in Julyโlike a hug from the sun
A hot shower, the best reset
Taking endless photos of my children and reminiscing about them before bed
Seeing my kids love each other
Painting my nails myself and having them last all week without chipping
Okay, one small chip
Getting THE photo I was hoping to capture (see below)
Kind, welcoming people at a new job
Ordering a pretty pair of shoes Iโve been eying for a while
The anticipation of a package arriving soon
This feeling: the kids tucked in, the house tidied up, and deciding itโs time to close up shop for the evening ๐ด
What would be on your list?

Okay, I am thinking about trying to go again. But then I would be set for another year. ๐
Courtney, this was such a sparkling read. it felt like sipping a glass of wine at golden hour. Your list manages to turn the mundane into magic, like cherry juice dripping down the chin of a summer memory.
I once captured the perfect photo of my cat mid-yawn, and I swear it felt like winning an Oscar for Best unscripted Moment. Do you ever look at those endless kid photos and wonder if your phone secretly judges you for storage usage? (Mine certianly did)
Also, the line painting nails with one small chipโchefโs kiss.
Itโs the tiny imperfections that make these moments even more yours, aint it?
Fun idea for a post! These moments are what itโs all about. Thanks for sharing, and in doing so encouraging me to reflect on my own ordinary moments. Top of mind for me recently are all the stroller jogs Iโve been getting in with my boys. We have a playlist curated by Mick Jagger that we like to sing along to together ๐
