The last Thursday (vol. 1 no. 7)
A linkletter of favorite things, featuring the tiniest retro clock for your desk and the best top for work
July has been bittersweet change blurring by almost too fast to feel it. We celebrated our anniversary, I started a new job, and we’re saying goodbye to our daughter’s first school and moving on to a new one August. But within all of that, lots of ordinary, too. I wrapped up my last summer break as a teacher with slow mornings, extra coffee, and tinkering around the house. I made elaborate toast (see below), listened to an audiobook (Funny Story by EmHen), and I shopped Amazon Prime Day deals. I doled out approximately 1,000 snacks to my kids, watched Luca on repeat, and stayed up too late.
Recently I shared a note here on Substack that confirmed something true for me is true for many: we all like seeing the ordinary, everyday stuff on social media! Sure, ultra-curated feeds are alluring for a bit, but what I like seeing most are those little, everyday moments that make up our lives.
If you are a new reader because of this note — hi, hello! Welcome. Thank you for spending a little bit of your screen time here. ♡ You can learn more about me and The Thursday List here. And for good measure, my husband says that this is my best post.
I post every Thursday, sometimes very late, like today. This is because I have an odd relationship with time, a stubborn optimism that I can complete many more tasks than are possible to complete within the confines of 24 hours. (Recently,
shared an amazing post about time anxiety that perfectly described this feeling.)This happens to be the last Thursday of the month, where I share a round up of favorite things over the last thirty days. And, *checks clock*, with about 40 minutes ‘til midnight, I think time is on my side to still post on Thursday. Let’s get on with it!

Quince cotton twill barrel pants: With my new job, I needed to freshen up my work wardrobe. This gave me an excuse to finally check out Quince, and I am obsessed. I can’t believe an Instagram ad didn’t get me before this, tbh! These barrel pants are so flattering and comfy. I have and love both the rust and the olive color. Most reviews recommend sizing down, which I did.
Quince cotton cashmere dolman sweater: I have this in both beige and black. With July being July (☀️) , a short-sleeved, lightweight sweater is perfect for this time of year when it is hot outside but the AC is blasting inside. It looks and feels very high-quality and is incredibly comfortable.
The tiniest retro clock for your desk: In settling into my new job, I’ve needed to decorate my desk (of course). I grabbed this tiny clock on Amazon, and it is one of my favorite purchases. It also comes in white and black, but I love the retro feel of this aquamarine color.
Heatless curls: I have been curious about trying this ever since I started growing out my hair from a short bob. Prime Day was the little nudge that I needed, and it was worth it! I still touched up my curls the next morning, but it gave my hair a great base curl that reduced the amount of time I had to spend curling it — a major win in my book.
The cutest push pins: Another favorite desk purchase. Why use regular push pins when you can have cheerful flowers instead?
This has been July 2024’s linkletter, a round up of favorite things over the last thirty days.
Oh, I love this "last Thursday" roundup. I felt I got to know a little bit of everyday-life Courtney from this!
Thanks for mentioning my little time-anxiety post 🥰 Your phrasing of "a stubborn optimism that I can complete many more tasks than are possible to complete within the confines of 24 hours" is genius!
My sister loves quince, I have yet to purchase anything from there myself (only a really nice leather purse, for her). The quality is legit.
Excited for you on the new job front and that viral note. 📝 🩵
