The last Thursday: a linkletter (vol. 1 no. 1)
Happy Thursday! The last Thursday of each month will be reserved for a round up of my favorite things that month and maybe a little reflection, if I’m feeling introspective.
Getting back in the swing after winter break has been slow going. January has really come through and given us not just snow, but also subzero temperatures, ice, and currently, fog. (If you’re confused about why this is a net positive for me, see my love of January here.) My daughter, a preschooler, and I, a teacher, have yet to have a full week of school, so I’ve had a little extra time at home to slow down and also lean into a few of my goals for the new year. I think this month’s round-up reflects that. 🙂 (Links may be commissionable at no extra cost to you.)
A very January bedroom view.
This was my first audiobook of 2024 and I just couldn’t stop! I think I finished it in a week and a half. In this nonfiction read, Montell argues that what hooks people and then keeps them in cults is the shared language within them. Here’s a blurb from Good Reads:
“Through juicy storytelling and cutting original research, Montell exposes the verbal elements that make a wide spectrum of communities “cultish,” revealing how they affect followers of groups as notorious as Heaven’s Gate, but also how they pervade our modern start-ups, Peloton leaderboards, and Instagram feeds. Incisive and darkly funny, this enrapturing take on the curious social science of power and belief will make you hear the fanatical language of “cultish” everywhere.”
It was fascinating. Highly, highly recommend.
I started using this moisturizer about six months ago and it has become a favorite. The consistency is so interesting—it almost feels like marshmallow fluff. At any rate, it’s so rich and hydrating, and the pot lasts forever. I normally fight dry skin all winter, and I really haven’t this time around. This stuff is the reason. I love that I can just grab it at Target, too. (Convenience is king these days.)
I have been going back and forth about trying a greens powder, and decided I would take one for a spin here in January to see if I noticed a difference in my overall health and energy. For inquiring minds, I decided to go with BetterDays Co. brand and I am enjoying them so far. I went with the caffeinated greens and I like the grapefruit twist flavor the best.
So of course, I needed a new vessel for this endeavor, because I like to use my Stanley for water only. Enter this cute $10 amber cup. I wanted something small, and this holds just 13 ounces. My original plan was to order the clear version, but after looking through nearly every review photo, I decided to go with the amber color, and I think it is so cute. It comes with two glass straws also, which is a nice perk.
My discovery of color safe bleach comes from a harrowing experience of accidentally dying my white Eras Tour t-shirt blue. Curse my husband’s dark wash jeans and double curse my mom brain for washing them with a white t-shirt. Seriously, what was I thinking? The answer: I wasn’t thinking at all. I am convinced that half of my brain has melted after having two children.
Anyway, brain melt aside, this color safe bleach not only fully restored my coveted Eras Tour shirt, but it also made all my clothes so much brighter. Seriously, is everyone else out here using color safe bleach in their laundry but me? Why are we keeping this a secret? If I was good at social media, I would have before and after photos here, but alas, I do not, and I am not.
And that’s a wrap on my January favorite things. Truly, the color safe bleach has brought me the most joy, I think. (Wow. Nothing has made me feel more 35 than that very sentence.)
