Mantras for times of transition... or something 🙃
Or, just a mom keeping herself sane during a move
We are moving and I’m very much ~happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time~. It’s miserable and magical, and so on.
While I have a lot to say about the move, we are still between both houses, in a sea of boxes, and without any idea where most of our belongings have landed. (What I would give to find my slippers!) I’ve eaten out for every meal, given my children too many popsicles, and am quite far off my laundry schedule (and all other schedules, to be frank).
Moving, though, is one of those times when the rules don’t apply. As an avid rule follower, this is freeing and maddening. Below are the mantras I’ve found myself repeating to keep things vaguely together.
We totally have almost everything packed. What’s left won’t take long.
We have wanted this for over a year. Now is the time to leap.
The kids’ iPad charger is around here somewhere.
We can take our time. We will settle in slowly.
Packing and unpacking is exercise! Exercise is good!
I vow to become a minimalist (why do I have so much stuff?)
This feels right. This is right.
I have to start all over again (re: decorating a home) / I get to start all over again.
That probably won’t peel off any paint.
This is our last move.
Turns out, the place you brought your babies home to is hard to leave. I know it’s the leaving that’s hard, and eventually I’ll look back with only fondness, cozy with memories made in our new house. But for now, I’ll feel all the feelings (and desperately search for my favorite coffee cup).
