In my last post, I shared eras of my life that are in the rearview mirror. One of these past eras involved caring about social media. I poured a decent amount of time and energy into cultivating a very small following on Instagram, and I ultimately decided that social media, as a hobby, is only enjoyable to me without rules or schedules. With so much of my life running on routines and structure, I needed a departure from that. I post when the desire to document strikes or a creative whim appears, and that is it. It works for me!
When I decided to start my writing project on Substack this year, I committed to writing once a week for the year. And I made it 35 weeks! I’m super proud of that. Ultimately, I’m doing this to grow as a writer and a person—that is my goal. And while I could keep writing a weekly post for the sake of *commitments* and *follow through,* I’m going to instead listen to my intuition and scale back. I want this to be enjoyable to me—isn’t that what hobbies are for? So, in the spirit of hygge over hustle, here are a few changes for The Thursday List:
From now through the holidays, I will post every other week rather than weekly. In January, I will reevaluate and perhaps shift back to a weekly post. 😌
Instead of sharing a monthly round-up of favorite things, I will instead share one link at the end of each post.
I am toying with the idea of turning on my paid subscription sometime in the new year. I will use the paywall to archive my posts and share a monthly, more personal post with paid subscribers, as well as organizational tips and resources. All of the posts that are currently free will continue to be free!
Lately, I have been working to be mindful of where I am spending my energy. I want the majority of that energy to be spent IRL, and I want any screen time to be additive, rather than excessive. I am, by NO means, perfectly implementing this! But I’m going to try to be more intentional in the coming weeks. Who knows—maybe I will finally start a new book.
I won’t see you next week, but I’ll see you the following Thursday. Please enjoy another photo of Halloween bats before you go. 🦇

Yes to Hygge over Hustle! Excited to see how things unfold for you. I have been thinking about creating more space between posts especially as we move through the holidays. Cheering for you, Friend! 🙌💖
